Fox Movies has closed a deal with King Features to pick up the screen rights to “Flash Gordon.”
John Davis will produce and J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the writers on “Star Trek 3,” are on board to write the script. Payne and McKay previously wrote the script adapting “Boilerplate,” the graphic novel by husband-and-wife comics team Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company. They also wrote “Micronauts,” a feature based on the 1970’s toy line that Abrams is producing.
In April, Dynamite Entertainment will release a new Flash Gordon comic series. A spin-off of the current Kings Watch mini-series, Flash Gordon #1 will re-introduce Flash with other King Features Syndicate characters like The Phantom and Mandrake the Magician.
Written by Kings Watch writer Jeff Parker, with art by Evan “Doc” Shaner and colors from Jordie Bellaire, Flash Gordon #1 will include Dale Arden, Dr. Hans Zarkov, Ming the Merciless and Flash as he journeys to the planet Mongo.
